James Rice

Jim is an avid champion for capacity development of men and women interested in leadership and governance improvement. He is the National Lead for Governance and Leadership in Gallagher and Chairman of Akademi Foundation.  

While he has worked in over 35 countries, Jim active to explore how best to strengthen the performance of individuals and institutions in the health systems of more regions of the globe. He works with boards and executive teams in leading nonprofit, credit union, health and social welfare sectors.

Prior to his work with Gallagher, Jim was based in Washington DC at Management Sciences for Health (www.msh.org) where he directed a $200 million USAID funded project designed to enhance the capacity of organizations dedicated to sustainable competencies for stronger health systems and greater health outcomes, particularly in low resourced countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Embracing problem oriented capacity development, Jim and the LMG (Leadership, Management and Governance at www.lmgforhealth.org ) team of talented health sector leaders and advisers are supporting women leadership mentoring networks; provincial and district focused governance systems development; capacity building of international NGOs and Ministries of Health serving vulnerable populations; and the creative embedding of modern leadership curricula into schools of medicine, nursing, nurse-midwifery and public health.
